Help find Henry: Warwick Castle seeks help tracing young eagle

Warwick Castle is missing an eagle after a young bird of prey flew off to life free and explore the countryside earlier this month.

Henry, the castle’s ‘teen’ Bald Eagle, took himself off on what has been described as “a summer holiday jaunt”, leaving mum Sydney, a 29 year old eagle with a 7ft wingspan, alone.

Henry took to the skies after the 3.30pm Flight of the Eagles display on August 6 and has yet to return.

The expert bird handlers are now asking the eagle-eyed residents to report any sightings in hope of tracking the troublesome bird down.

A castle spokesperson said: “Sometimes, the birds will decide to explore the countryside for a while before returning to their home at the castle.

“It is not uncommon for young birds of prey like Henry to spread their wings and head off on a holiday for a few days.”

The young eagle has a six-foot wingspan and looks brown in colour as he does not yet have his adult feathers.

He was last seen with a bell on his tail and wearing jesses.

He is not a danger to the general public but for the bird’s safety, Warwick Castle’s expert bird handlers ask members of the public not to approach Henry or try to capture him.
