Thieves drove the wrong way on a motorway with three deflated tyres during a police chase near Warwick and Leamington.

The offenders abandoned the vehicle and fled before police could catch them.

The drama started when the car was reported stolen in a car key burglary in the south Warwickshire area.

A police spokesperson said: "Within 10 minutes it was sighted on the A429 where it was pre-emptively stung, deflating 3/4 tyres.

"The vehicle then drove the wrong way on the M40 before the occupant(s) abandoned the vehicle and made off.

"The vehicle has been forensically recovered and enquiries are ongoing."
