Age UK Warwickshire is working with two Leamington businesses to lay on a Christmas Day lunch for elderly people who will otherwise be spending the day alone.
Guests who have been referred to the charity by their GPs will be able to attend the event at the Episode Hotel and if they will be able to travel there in a taxi provided by Fourways Taxis, owned by Suki Matharu.
Hotel owner Ian Ferguson said “Ensuring that we have reduced loneliness for these guests, even for one day, will be an amazing feeling for our team.”
Linda O’Sullivan, fundraising manager for Age UK Warwickshire, said: “The reality for many older people is that they will be sharing the day with no one. This campaign is not just about raising awareness of this concerning public health issue, but we are also determined to raise funds that will allow us to create positive social opportunities in the area throughout the year. We really do appreciate all donations, as they will make a difference to people lives.”
