Astronauts ready for lift off at Whitnash Fun Day

The annual event, which has been running since 2003, takes place on Sunday July 3 - and people of all ages can take part in a supermarket trolley procession through the town, which they are asked to decorate according to the theme and dress up in costumes as well. Individual walkers in fancy dress can also take part.

Taking part alongside the Fun Day is the Cavin Woodward Memorial Run, which started out as the three-mile Whitnash Road Race in 2003, organised by Whitnash athlete Cavin Woodward and Leamington Cycling and Athletic Club. Following his untimely death from a heart attack in 2010, the run was given its current title and is now a 5km race, which anyone of any age or running ability is welcome to run.

After the run and carnival, the fun will continue at Acre Close field, with stalls, activities - including caving, wall climbing, go carting and archery - displays, live music and food.

Whitnash town councillor Simon Button, who will have been inaugurated as the town’s new mayor by the time of the Fun Day, said: “I have been involved in Whitnash Fun Day for many years. It’s a fantastic event, extremely well run by Cllr Adrian Barton and his committee, following months of preparations. It brings the community together, on hopefully a sunny day, with a variety of attractions and gives many charities the opportunities to raise funds. I am looking forward to this year’s Fun Day and to opening the event.”
