Youve Got a Friend celebrates the music of James Taylor and Carole King

Its new season is now open for booking, with early highlights including Blofeld & Baxter: Rogues on the Road, in which bastions of the beloved Test Match Special Henry Blofeld and Peter Baxter tell amusing tales of life behind the microphone.

The UK’s leading constitutional historian David Starkey will give a talk about the Tudor period, which he describes as “the most glorious soap opera”, and the popular Guardian columnist Owen Jones will be shining light on a positive way forward in politics.

Comedy this season will include Ireland’s biggest sketch act Foil, Arms and Hog, stand-up comedians Carl Hutchinson and Kieran Hodgson, promising what the Sunday Times has described as “a warm, funny and seamlessly delivered hour of character comedy”.

There will also be topical laughs from James Veitch and smiley star of Live at The Apollo, Mock the Week and 8 out of 10 Cats, Rob Beckett.

Families can enjoy Greg Foot, fresh from Blue Peter, providing some very loud bangs and huge flames. There’s also a non-stop, highly interactive and energetic show with LazyTown Live on Stage, and the Chinese State Circus will return.

Music fans enjoy the warm vocals and sharp wit of Kate Rusby, the continuation of the The Searchers’ remarkable career, and country performer Nathan Carter. Fans of Il Divo and G4 can enjoy Brit Award-winning vocal group Blake, while the timeless repertoire of the Bee Gees will be brought to life with Jive Talkin’. And a new theatre experience, You’ve Got a Friend, will celebrate the music of James Taylor and Carole King.

There will also be National Theatre screenings including A View from the Bridge and The Audience as well as Branagh Theatre Live – Romeo and Juliet. Unique film events will take place throughout the summer season from Discover Arts.
