Blogging is key to 'spreading the word' according to Warwick's poet laureate.
Jane Holland was crowned at the Warwick Words Festival of literature last year and has been busy working on her laureate ‘blog’.
The website includes information about her life, her poems, such as the most recent Warwickshire Christmas and tips for would-be wordsmiths.
Another link from her main website is Poets on Fire where listings for performance poetry events can be found.
Mrs Holland, 38, said: “I have been continuing to develop my on-line presence as poet laureate and linked up with other laureates around the world and invited them to send me their poems.
“I’ve had quite a good response, including from one in New Zealand.
“Over the past few years I have had around 15,000 hits on the website - that doesn’t sound like much, but for a poetry website that’s pretty good.
“I think it’s the way forwards for everything. If you’re not online you are living a half-life because you miss out on becoming part of this huge community.
“Professional poets are quite isolated unless you live in London, but you can have a huge community of friends online and bounce ideas around. It also means when you go to an event in London and you see 20 other poets you can put a name to the face.”
A published poet with one collection - The Brief History of a Disreputable Woman - to her name, she is currently working on another called Songs From the Camper based on the year she spent living in a camper van while studying English as a mature student at Oxford University.
The mother of five, who was a world-ranked professional snooker player, is also a novelist.
Her first novel Kissing the Pink was published in 1999 and as a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel her next novel will be a teen fantasy set in modern-day Coventry.
Mrs Holland said: “I like modern gothic horror and thought it would be great to set one here, in our environment, rather than in America as most are.
“It’s going to include some back-street pool hall scenes - which I know about from experience - including one in Rileys in Coventry, where I sometimes still have a game.”
