Obeng joins four more in committing to Brakes

Leamington's squad is taking shape with four more players committing for the 2016/17 campaign and Paul Holleran pulling off something of a coup in attracting pacy striker Ahmed Obeng to the club.

James Mace, Ben George, Ross Oulton and Rob Elvins will link up with Brakes for pre-season, while Ghanaian Obeng will be hoping to fulfil the potential which saw Kidderminster offer him a full-time contract in 2014.

After a season in the National League, the former Rushall forward joined Hednesford Town before linking up with Stafford Rangers towards the end of the campaign and Holleran said the 24-year-old had long been on his radar.

“We’ve looked at him before but he’s been out of our range,” said Holleran.

“He was prolific when he burst on to the scene and the last year probably hasn’t gone as well as he would have liked.

“But he’s still young and he’s got pace to burn and loads of potential.

“He’s the kind of player we have lacked in the last couple of years.

“He’s got a hunger to do well and he can go again.

“He’s looking forward to the challenge and we are looking forward to having him here.”

One player who will not be returning the Phillips 66 Community Stadium, however, is Callum Gittings, who signed on a temporary basis in the latter stages of last season.

Gittings has left Solihull Moors to join AFC Telford United.
