Half-century is the next target for Leamington

Paul Holleran said there is still plenty to play for as Brakes enter the final stretch of their inaugural Conference North campaign.

With five games remaining, starting with tomorrow’s home fixture against Worcester City, the Leamington boss has set his side a minimum requirement of two wins and a draw.

“We set ourselves little targets,” said Holleran.

“It is very important to get to 50 points as quickly as possible - we’ve got to keep stretching ourselves.”

“But the beauty of this league is that whoever you’re playing it’s a good game, with Worcester, Boston and Harrogate still to come.”

Brakes’ late-season flourish has seen them lose just one of the last six, with title-chasing Telford fortunate to escape with a point on Saturday.

All the goals came in the first half and while Holleran admitted his side had been lucky to reach the break on level terms, he felt their second-half display could, on another day, have yielded all three points.

“Telford had a strong first 20-25 minutes and we didn’t play narrow enough,” he said.

“There were elements of good play by them and we finished the half well.

“But did we deserve to be level? Probably not.

“In the second half the game opened up and and we played with width.

“Reece (Flanagan) and Joe (Magunda) got the ball wide and it put a different complexion on it.

“There were a few good half-chances and a blatant penalty turned down.

“The way we started, a draw was probably right.

“But I’m pleased with the way we hung in there and then grew into the game. It was a very accomplished performance”
