Faithful fans rewarded with a point at Lowestoft

Brakes manager Paul Holleran was handing out the plaudits to players and fans alike after his side returned from the long trip to Lowestoft with a hard-earned point on Monday.

As conditions deteriorated after the break, Lowestoft utilised an increasingly strong wind and driving rain to pen Brakes back in their own half.

Stefan Moore’s strike was cancelled out by Shaun Bammant to deny the visitors a maximum return from the bank holiday weekend, but Holleran said it was important they came away with something from the east coast as much for the travelling support as for their league position.

“It’s a dreadful place to get to and for our fans to come out in such numbers on a bank holiday speaks volumes,” said Holleran.

“Considering the conditions, it was a real top non-league game with a great atmosphere.

“The fans were buzzing off the players’ efforts and the players were buzzing off the fans.

“The manner of the performance and the grit we showed, I was delighted to get something to bring back from the game.”

Having already faced three of the Conference North’s top six, Brakes have an easier-looking proposition tomorrow when Colwyn Bay visit the New Windmill.

Frank Sinclair’s side currently sit in the bottom three having lost three of their opening five fixtures.

However, Holleran is expecting a reaction following their 5-0 home defeat to AFC Fylde on Bank Holiday Monday.

“I’m mindful of the fact they will change things around,” he said.

Brakes expect to be without Lee Chilton again, with the midfielder struggling to shake off a pull in his quad.
