Wardens' batting line-up blown apart by Shrewsbury's Blofield

The off-spinner claimed eight for 67 from 15. 2 overs to wreck an encouraging start to Wardens’ pursuit of 190 for victory.

Harry Johnson (35) and Arjun Bath (23) posted 51 for the first wicket before Bath became the first of Henry Blofield’s eight victims.

From there on in, only Scott Stenning (31) provided any meaningful resistance, and with Sam Griffiths chipping in with two for 23, Wardens were all out for 158 in the 50th over.

Earlier, having won the toss, Shrewsbury made a good start themselves with openers Will Parton (45) and Ed Foster (18) putting on 75 for the first wicket.

Two quick wickets for Scott Stenning (2-50) brought Wardens back into the game, after which wickets fell regularly.

Only Adam Shantry (57 not out) made any further impression with the bat as Shrewsbury reached 189 for nine off their 55 overs.

Brinder Phagura continued his impressive bowling form with four for 49, supported by first team debutant Dan Mousley (2-49).

Wardens 2nds ran out comfortable winners in their Division One fixture at Shrewsbury 2nds.

Having been put in to bat by their hosts, Wardens were indebted to an excellent 153 off just 88 balls from Nick Seager which provided the backbone of the innings.

With support from Robin de Regt (37), Paul Henderson (42 not out) and Paul Jacob (32 not out), the visitors reached 299 for four off their 50 overs.

Lewis Evans was the most successful bowler for the home team with two for 44.

Shrewsbury made a strong start to their reply, reaching 149 for one courtesy of Dillon Pennington (118) and Tom Somerville (65).

However, when both were dismissed by young spinners Kieran Holland and Ben Rex, the home team lost wickets rapidly to finish 47 runs short on 252 for eight.

Mark Pidgeon was the pick of the bowlers with two for 37.

Wardens 3rds achieved a comfortable 167-run victory in their Cotswold Hills Division One clash at home to Broadway.

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat, Wardens made steady progress with Fred Rex (56) and Anthony Pidgeon (41) providing a strong foundation.

James Jordan (61 not out) and Tom Clayton (64 not out) then imparted the acceleration to take the hosts to an imposing 281 for three off their 45 overs.

Warren Marston was the pick of the Broadway bowlers with one for 38 off his ten overs.

Having lost both openers cheaply, the Broadway response was given real momentum by Jamie Powell, who hit a quickfire 60.

But when he fell, caught behind to Ibrahim Afzal, the innings subsided from 90 for three to 114 all out in just the 24th over.

Afzal was the star performer with the ball, claiming six for 21 in his eight overs, supported by Anthony Pidgeon (2-17).
