Saints lifted the Birmingham County FA Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup with an impressive display of attacking football, comfortably beating West Midlands League side Darlaston on Monday.
Barry Shearsby was able to name his strongest line-up for the club's biggest match in 11 years and they attacked from the outset at Solihull Moors' Damson Park ground, forcing two corners in the opening five minutes.

The best of their early chances fell to Stef Jones, whose 11th-minute shot went just wide of the post.

It was from another corner on 17 minutes that Saints took the lead when Lee Scott's header was stopped on the line, but the defender followed up to steer the ball through the crowded goalmouth.

It took until the 19th minute for Darlaston to have their first real chance on goal, with Shaun Pugh just failing to connect with a corner from the right.

Shortly after, Saints keeper Oliver Manuel did well to gather an inswinging corner from Wayne Price and his opposite number Stephen Blews also had to be at his best to deny Jim Graham, pushing his powerful shot round the post.

With Saints continuing to force the pace, Luke Cole was upended in the penalty area and Daniel Pirvu scored from the spot to double the lead in the 27th minute.

It could have been three only minutes later, but Blews tipped a thunderbolt from Andy Gregory onto the top of the crossbar.

Darlaston had to take the game to Saints in the second half and, within three minutes of the re-start, Craig Frost earned a booking for bringing down Jones and Ashley Justin also got a yellow card for his part in the melee that followed.

The Black Country side started to unsettle Saints and, in their best spell of the match, pulled a goal back. A long clearance from Blews bounced high into the penalty area and, with Manuel in two minds, Pugh beat everyone to the ball on 61 minutes.

Jones went off to be replaced by Tom Friend and the substitution paid dividends as the tall striker latched onto Gregory's header for a shot on 64 minutes that sealed the match.

Darlaston could have got a second near the end when Pugh put a shot onto the top of the bar, but by then they had been reduced to ten men. Price was dismissed after receiving a second booking when bringing down Si Proctor from behind.

This was Saints first silverware since winning the Birmingham County FA Vase in 1997-98.

An ecstatic Shearsby said: "I am dead proud of all the lads, as it is a fair few years since we won something here at Southam."

"Apart from the lapse for the goal, we were solid at the back throughout and our midfield trio were tremendous."

"We are going to have a few beers to celebrate and then it's back to training for our must-win league match against Oldbury Athletic on Saturday."

Saints: Oliver Manuel, Lee Scott, Daniel Pirvu, Si Proctor, Andy Gregory, Ian Wilson (capt], Luke Cole, Danny Adams, Josh Cole (Marc Unitt 89), Jim Graham (Alex Unitt 90), Stef Jones (Tom Friend 64).
