Leamington Lions Ladies knocked Coventry City's Development XI out of the Birmingham County Cup on Sunday, beating them 2-1.
The visitors lost their way at times in an end-to-end contest, but did enouogh to avoid a repeat of last season’s defeat in the same competition.

Stacy Doughty, Angie Galloway and Sigourney Gowlett all had chances in the first half, while City te
sted Lions keeper and captain Vicky Busby more than once.

Doughty broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after Sophie Meade had been pushed over in the box, but the Sky Blues equalised straight from the kick-off with a shot that curled into the top corner despite Busby getting a hand to the ball.

Lions piled on the pressure in a more measured second-half showing and were rewarded with a string of corners. Sam Morris managed to knock in one of these from Sharon Williams’ kick.

Coventry continued to play the long ball in search of an equaliser. Lions hung on, but it wasn’t pretty.

Leamington Lions under-15s won 7-0 at Central Warwickshire Girls’ League strugglers Tipton Town.

Kenilworth Town girls under-18s lost 4-1 to league leaders Silverdale as they returned from a three-week lay-off with only ten players. Bonnie Mountford scored their consolation goal from the penalty spot.

There was some excellent work by goalkeeper Alice Haddleton, Gabby Cooper and Lisa Edwards.

Jess Carter scored four goals as Woodloes Angels under-11s chalked up yet another Central Warwickshire Girls’ League win on Saturday. Charlotte Utton 2 and Georgia Wilkinson were also on target ina 7-0 result against Stratford Town.

Player of the match: Georgia Gunson.
