He does not expect to play for Leaming-ton again this season, but Josh Blake is not ruling out a return to the famous gold and black in 2010-11 - in his new preferred role of centre midfield.
Blake is currently on loan to United Counties League Premier side Daventry Town in a bid to build up his fitness following a stop-start campaign which has seen him beset by niggling injuries.
Town are currently second in the table two points beh
ind St Neots, but with a massive six games in hand and Blake is revelling in his new role.
"I left (Brakes] as a forward but I spoke to the Daventry manager Ady Fuller and he said it would be unfair to put me up front with the two strikers doing so well so I'm playing centre midfield, in a more attacking role and it's given me a new lease of life. Playing there you've got to be fit and I've scored six goals in nine or ten games."
With Brakes' first-choice front pairing of Mark Bellingham and Luke Corbett both out injured, manager Paul Holleran has the option of an immediate recall for Blake. However, the Brakes legend does not expect to return to the New Windmill until the close-season.
"I am happy where I am. I'm enjoying it and I can see myself staying this season. We've got a good team and there are a few ex-Leamington players here which makes it easier. I am 29 and I just want to be playing, but you never know next season. It will be a new challenge and we'll see in the summer what's happening."
Despite dropping down to the United Counties, Blake believes he can still do a job at the Southern Premier level when fully fit.
"What it was, I wasn't fit and had been suffering a few injuries. I was getting ten, 15, 20 minutes and wasn't doing myself justice.
"But we played a friendly for Daventry against Brackley recently and although we lost 3-1 I scored and I'd like to think I could still do a job at that level - although, if I was called back I'd be a bit rusty up front."
Meanwhile, Holleran is gearing up for an enjoyable end to the season after a 2-1 home win over Stourbridge in midweek propelled his side into the Zamaretto Premier Division play-off places.
Goals from James McPike and James Husband made it five wins in six for the in-form side and banished any lingering doubts of relegation in their first season back at Southern League level.
Now Holleran is hoping his side can rise to an altogether different challenge as they find themselves in the thick of the play-off race.
"It's a case of enjoying it," said Holleran. "It's been a difficult season for everyone, but in the last quarter of the season we know we've got enough points not to leave through the exit door. Now the challenge is to see if we can keep turning out results."
Adam Cooper will be missing for the home clash with Bedford tomorrow following the death of his father on Tuesday night.
