Cosima Berry, the best female high jumper ever to wear the white and blue vest of Leamington C&AC, became a national champion in Birmingham on Sunday.
Berry, not 15 until next week, won the England under-17 title at the National Indoor Arena.

She cleared a height of 1m70, equalling a personal best she set seven days earlier at the Midlands Open.

Cosima, one of a group of athletes who travel from Tudor Hall school near Banbury to train at Edmondscote, had already sealed the gold medal when she cleared 1.67 at the second attempt.

That put her clear of Philippa Rogan of Reading in second place, with Victoria Anderson from West Cheshire and Kate Anson of Wigan equal third.

Cosima then soared over the bar at 1.70 to equal her best and seal victory by six centimetres.

She made an attempt at 1.73, but the title of English champion was already hers and new heights can be left for other days.
