For many years Leamington has tried, very quietly, to enhance its claim to be accepted as the national centre for all codes of flat green bowling.
In many ways the existing facilites are in a very accessible central position with splendid access from all parts of the country, excellent infra-structure and in a very pleasant area to visit which cannot be equalled by any other town.

With the English Bowling Association lease at Worthing ending in 2012 they will shortly be looking for new premises, perhaps with England Indoor Associations and perhaps under the newly unified Bowls England banner.

It would be adventageous to Warwick district for this to happen here in terms of finance, prestige and jobs.

The one facility we do lack is an indoor bowling stadium that meets modern requirements. I do appreciate that we have a fine facility at Avon Valley that was built by volunteers 30 years ago.

However, its lease has only 13 years to go and there is no guarantee that this lease will be fulfilled.

Perhaps the Focus warehouse in Emscote Road would be an ideal site for conversion and should be considered by the Amenities and Leisure department. 'Superskip' (name and address supplied)
