Kenilworth is home to some of the finest restaurants in Warwickshire and one of the gems in the town's crown has to be The Diment restaurant on Warwick Road.
The Diment is housed in a three-storey building dating back to 1870. It is classic in its style but not pretentious and the food is something to talk about.
An extensive wine list welcomed us in and when we got to our table we were served some bit
-sized salmon, compliments of the chef, before being given a selection of breads with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
There were plenty of good starters to choose from but I went for my favourite, goat's cheese en-croute on a bed of salad which was the perfect start to the meal whilst my guest had the generously sized beef starter.
We didn't have too long a wait for the mains. The service was swift and efficient and my delicately cooked sea bass with crushed noisette potatoes and asparagus arrived very well-presented and it was divine. My guest opted for a good steak and chips, which he also enjoyed and promptly cleared his plate.
Pudding for me was the Bailey's chocolate cup. A must if you're a fan of chocolate, chocolate ice-cream and Baileys. It was served with biscotti biscuits. My companion chose a selection of cheeses with biscuits and this did not disappoint either. Good filter coffee rounded off the meal with some petit fours.
The a la carte menu isn't as pricey as you may think either with starters such as grilled fig and crispy parma ham salad at £5.90 and mains like chick pea and almond biriani (v) with homemade flat bread accompanied with Diment chutneys for £13.95.
For those on a stricter budget, a fixed price dinner menu with three courses is £20.95 from Tuesday to Thursday. A two-course lunch will set you back £10.95 and a three-course lunch is £12.95. Lucia Clifford
