Howard Deighton was so inspired by a chat over a pint in Long Itchington that he decided to re-open the old village store.
After talking to fellow customers in a village pub, the 33-year-old realised the area was crying out for a shop that sells locally-sourced organic produce.
The village already has a Co-op, but residents said they wanted a smaller store where they could hand-pick fruit and vegetables and bump into neighbours.
Mr Deighton - who also runs a cleaning company and plans to start a taxi service - took over the old store, just up the street from his house in Church Road, and opened for business in January.
The premises had been closed for more than five years and was becoming an eyesore.
Mr Deighton said: "I get cheese from Warwick, chicken and eggs from Offchurch and some vegetables from the allotments across the road owned by local people.
"I also sell hand-made cards made by local people and watercolour paintings by artists from the area."
He added: "We do really well. I do teas and coffees for £1 and provide internet access, so a lot of people come in for a chat and a drink and they don't actually buy anything. But I am happy to see them here."
