Fields between Cubbington and Lillington may disappear beneath hundreds of new houses if a 'strategic' new site is developed.
The land around Glebe Farm and Tanners Farm was identified as a possible site for development by landowners the Thomas White's Charity and the King Henry VIII Trust after Warwick District Council published its draft 'preferred options' plan for devel
opment until 2026.
Officials are investigating whether to include the land in its final report, and there are no figures for how many houses could be built on the site.
The district council will be launching a six-week public consultation on Friday February 26.
Cubbington parish council chairman Cllr Theresa Saul believes the village will be opposed to the idea.
She said: "This was an area we did not want developed.
"We did not want the land between Cubbington and Lillington developed because Cubbington would not be the village it is."
Cllr Saul added that she believed the area had been chosen because of the outcry over proposed development in other areas but that it would be "inadvisable" to build on the land suggested until Cubbington's existing problems with surface water causing flooding as it was low-lying.
She said: "It is a very large area and we don't why they would put it forward to have the whole of it developed."

District council chairman Cllr Norman Pratt (Con, Cubbington) described the proposal as "eroding" the green belt but said there would be a great deal of local opposition and he would be "extremely disappointed" if building did take place.
He added that although greenfield sites no longer had the protection they once had, it was early in the process and it was unlikely to reach fruition.
He said: "I doubt that in the current economic situation there are many developers who are willing to start building houses because of the cost."
