Youngsters from Lillington Primary School are aiming to be several steps ahead of the game in a high-tech health project.
They are taking part in NHS Warwickshire's and Warwickshire County Council's Horsepower Challenge, launched in Kenilworth on Monday, which will involve them using innovative technology to compete against two other schools.

The 30 pupils will wear special pedometers which record their steps onto a computer and power virtual school buses in an online race.

Headteacher Davinder Jandu said: "The children are really excited about taking part. We think it's a great initiative because it encourages exercise in a fun way."

The challenge is aimed at promoting a healthier lifestyle and reducing childhood obesity.

To make it more fun each child is represented in the game as a cartoon horse, for which they can collect more accesories as they build up more steps.

Whichever school manages to be most active and travel furthest in the challenge will be declared the winner on February 11.

NHS Warwickshire's director of public health Helen King said: "This innovative scheme will encourage children to fit more physical activity into their daily lives and they will reap the benefits, including improved fitness and concentration.

"By motivating children to walk to school where possible and to make more time for outdoor games and sport we hope that the challenge will help pupils form healthy habits for life."
