Almost half a million pounds will be spent on rejuvenating Newbold Comyn golf course in Leamington.
After a 12-month selection process Warwick District Council, the lease holder and current owner, has given management and development rights for a bidder to take control of the course on Thursday April 1.
The council wanted a commercial partner wi
th better expertise to run the loss-making 57-hectare site.
The managing company, which is yet to be named, will invest £210,000 and the council will put in £250,000.
Cllr Sue Gallagher (Lib Dem, Leek Wootton), the district councillor responsible for culture, said: "Over time Newbold Comyn can be a superb golf course.
"It is pretty good now but it does need quite a lot of money spending on it and the council does not have all of that money.
"I am very excited about the future of the course."
Improvements will include a new practice area, new signs, development of the shop and changing facilities and the introduction of an online booking system.
Pay and play services will remain and more junior and women's training and playing options will be made available.
Money will also be spent on repairing the course and its pathways.
Cllr Gallagher said: "It is basically a course for everybody and it must be used for everybody.
"That is why we insisted on keeping the pay and play.
"We want more people to enjoy the course and, as part of my portfolio, I want more people keeping fit."
The bidder has signed a 50-year lease, under the terms the course will remain both open and affordable to the public and the council will be allowed to oversee its investment during the first five years of the agreement.
Cllr Michael Doody (Con, Radford), the district council's leader, said: "We believe we have someone with a lot better expertise to make it a better golf course than it is now.
"We were losing a lot of money and we believe this new contract will take us forward. We have done very well from the whole thing."
The 18-hole, par 70, course was opened in 1973.
Its current professionals are Andy Hicks and David Playdon. A decision on their future at the course will be made by the new management.
