Fundraisers in Leamington will tonight (Friday) be holding an evening of music, comedy and entertainment to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
Bands and performers from around the Midlands will be performing at Bath Place Community Venture in Have a Heart for Haiti, the centre's first major event since it was forced to move after a fire in October.
Held at the venture's temporary premises in the former library in York Road, the evening will include a pantomime performance, African drumming, comedy and live music.
The event's organiser Gabrielle Sauve explained she was so impatient for someone to do something she took charge herself.
She said: "When the Haiti disaster happened I felt Leamington should do something. We have a community centre so we should have a collective event to raise money.
"It's the first big event in Bath Place since the fire and it's quite exciting. It's almost like a phoenix from the ashes."
Proceeds from the event will go the Lambi Fund, a not-for-profit organisation that has been working for community-based sustainable development in Haiti since 1994.
The fund will be working to help families carry on with their lives, delivering food and essential supplies, rebuilding grain mills and other enterprises, repairing rainwater cisterns and replenishing livestock.
Ms Sauve added: "When there is a disaster the whole world rushes to help and then that's it. The money is going to an organisation that will look after the area after the event."
Among the performers will be Leamington singer-songwriter Shanade, who is also organising the musical side of the bill. This includes folk-rock, country rock and covers bands as well as Noke, the 'broken beat' soul band, she sings with and Bass, Birds and Beats, another of her projects.
Shanade, a singer who sung on records by Amy Winehouse and the Zutons, said: "It is good to keep the earthquake fresh in people's minds.
"There's no appeal I've heard of where people can have a really good night, listen to some music and do it for a good cause.
"The response has been really good. Because it's a charity gig people were really willing to come and help. Everyone I've asked has said yes immediately."
Have a Heart for Haiti will start at 7pm. Tickets cost £4
