Crews from Leamington and Warwick were called to the Rangemaster works in Clarence Street, Old Town, shortly before 7.15pm.

Workers on a late shift had activated alarms after seeing smoke coming from a storage area at the back of the production site.

Packaging and marketing documents fuelled the fire, which an Aga Rangemaster spokeswoman described as "intense".

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hoses to douse the flames in the area, where spare parts and fridge doors were also stored.

Around 50 people were working in the factory at the time and all were accounted for.

The spokeswoman added that although the cost of repairing the damage was not known, it was not likely to be significant.

She said: "It was an intense fire but was brought under control by the fire brigade.

"There were no employees involved, there were no injuries and it has not affected production."

Police temporarily closed Clarence Street to traffic, but reopened it later that evening.

The cause of the fire is not known. An investigation team is due to visit the site today (Tuesday).
