The Warwick Folk Festival is back this year with a huge variety of folk acts and workshops for visitors to sample.

Running from Thursday July 21 to Sunday July 24, the 38th edition of the festival is taking place in Warwick School and the surrounding town.

It will be headlined on the Thursday by The Unthanks, made up of sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank, who won the Best Album award in BBC Radio 2’s Folk Awards this year and were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2008.

Friday will be headlined by British folk heroes Show of Hands, who have sold out the Royal Albert Hall four times thanks to their skill with several instruments, and have also won a BBC Folk Award.

Talented flute player Michael McGoldrick, another recipient of a BBC Folk Award, will headline Saturday with his new band Michael McGoldrick and Friends.

Finally, the festival will be closed out on Sunday by Canadian quartet La Vent du Nord, who perform typical folk music from their home province of Quebec.

Festival director Dick Dixon said: “This year’s festival really has got something for everyone and tickets are selling better than ever.

“As well as festival favourites such as Show of Hands, we’ve got a fabulous dance line up, both dance teams and ceilidhs, including local hero Will Pound and his Ceilidh Band and a great range of workshops including the return of our Saturday Dance Academy.

“If you’ve also wanted to try a new instrument or dance step - here’s your chance.”

Along with music, the festival will incorporate a variety of other attractions including ceilidhs, workshops, a craft and music fair, real ale and cider, and a wine and prosecco bar.

Warwick will also host several open air concerts, dance workshops and pub music sessions around the town during the festival weekend.

Visitors can choose from Friday to Sunday tickets, Thursday to Sunday tickets or individual day tickets. Under 10s attend free.

Tickets can be booked online and over the phone at the Bridge House Theatre Box Office.

Anyone with a CV34 postcode is entitled to a 20 per cent discount on Friday, Saturday and Sunday day and evening tickets by using the code ‘CV342016’ when booking.
