WAGS Gang Show for one night only on the RSC stage

The WAGS Gang Show will be staged at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford on Sunday June 1 with the aim of raising a total of £15,000 for the Myton Hospices.

The annual variety show, which was performed at the Spa Centre in Leamington in February has already raised £3,500 for the cause.

Tony Guy, the show‘s business director , said: “We have raised over £40,000 for charity over the last ten years and we’re hoping to raise £12,000 from this show for the Myton Hospices.

“Performing on the new RSC stage will be a highlight of a lot of the children’s lives and we’re all really excited about it.”

The show, featuring a performance by the Royal Naval Association Male Voice Choir, marks 30 years since WAGS first performed at the RSC .

It includes an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, a megamix of 1990s pop hits and songs by Barry Manilow, Amy Winehouse and the Muppets.

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond, who as a 14-year-old was part of the Royal Gala Gang Show in 1984 which was attended by Princess Anne, has been invited to attend.

On the show’s 40th anniversary he wrote a letter thanking Mr Guy for making the experience possible.

Other stars who have played a part in or attended the shows over the years include Graham Chapman of Monty Python fame, Alvin Stardust, Russ Abbot and Superman II actress Sarah Douglas who still lives in Stratford.
