AN ELATED congregation at Abbey Hill church has welcomed a brand new minister with over 170 braving the snow and ice to make her ordination.

Revd Mhari Mclintock took to the pastorate at Abbey Hill United Reformed Church on Saturday in a ceremony presided over by the Revd Roy Lowes, Moderator of the West Midland Province.

During the service, town mayor, George Illingworth, offered the Right Hand of Fellowship and welcomed the new reverend on behalf of Kenilworth. Afterwards she was treated to tea by church-goers to welcome her to the town.

Mhari, who is married with two teenage children and lives in Coventry, did some of her training at the church and was appointed part-time minister in a unanimous decision by members last year.

The church has been without a minister since Revd Liz Caswell retired in June.

During her ceremony, the Lantern which is being processed around the churches of Kenilworth during the week of Christian Unity, also arrived during the service.
