The pub in High Street was subject to a break-in on Tuesday night when intruders forced their way in through a downstairs window.

Once inside they stole a cash box with what is understood to have contained takings from the weekend.

It is not known how much was taken, but it may have included all the cash from the Bank Holiday Sunday beer festival.

A police spokesperson said: “It is believed the break-in took place sometime between 3am and 4am on Tuesday 27 May.

Police from the Leamington investigation team are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in High Street late on Monday night (26 May) or in the early hours of Tuesday 27 May, to come forward.”

A member of staff at the pub confirmed on Wednesday that they had reopened as normal following the incident.

High Street was closed off to traffic until 9pm on Sunday to allow for the beer festival along the street.

Messages of support for the pub were posted on social network sites during the week as news of the break-in spread.

Earlier this year, the Green Man in Warwick Road was raided by armed robbers who made off with large amounts of cash. The One Stop shop in Albion Street was also targeted by armed thieves.
