Fire crews rushed out to Talisman Square on Sunday after an explosion and fire left the streets filled with smoke and without power.

The explosion and subsequent fire broke out inside the sub-station at around 2.45pm.

Nobody was hurt in the incident, but smoke filled the area and shops and homes nearby lost power for some of the afternoon.

The explosion also set off burglar and car alarms in the town centre.

Fire crews from Stratford and Southam were on scene for around half an hour, and the electricity board was also on site to help with the damage.

Nearby residents reported noise and disturbance following the incident, with many businesses forced to trade through the short power cut.
