A DEVOTED Kenilworth
couple have celebrated 60 years of happy marriage thanks to years of love and laughter as well as support from theatrical friends and beloved family.

Peter and Margaret Brayshaw tied the knot on 13th September 1952, and have this week reached the milestone diamond wedding anniversary which they celebrated in style with a packed-out party in the Talisman Theatre.

The happy couple, who have always been very involved with the town theatre, put their lasting marriage down to laughter and not taking each other too seriously - as well as remembering the golden rule to never go to bed on an argument.

Looking back to the Boxing Day dinner party where he met Margaret 63 years ago, Peter said they hit if off from the start, and after walking her home that night they began courting and soon fell in love. Three years later the pair were married at Coventry Registry Office and have never looked back.

“I used to cycle across town to see her every day after we met,” he said. “I would meet her from work and take her out for cakes at the cafe.”

He added: “We have had a very happy marriage since, we do nothing but laugh at each other.”

Margaret, who lived in Coventry before she and Peter moved to the town in 1984, joined the Talisman theatre in 1955 and even though she no longer performs, is still very involved with the theatre and is usually in the front row for all their shows.

The pair have even starred together on the stage during a performance of Tiger at the Gates as Andromache and Ajax and are still very keen theatre-goers and love to watch classical music concerts and shows when they can. Peter is still a trustee of the theatre.

Margaret said: “Where 60 years have gone, I don’t know but we do a lot together with the theatre and we are always laughing. We don’t usually even remember our anniversaries but friends from the theatre insisted we do something special. We are so grateful to them for the party.

The couple have twin daughters, Melanie and Maxine, a son, Russell, and two grandchildren.
