Thank you: Accident victim’s message to those who helped her
Kamal Rai, was recently hit by a car on her way to work last week. Luckily she only suffered minor injuries.
Grateful Kamal Rai is putting out a message of thanks to all the unknown people who came to her aid after she was knocked down by a car.
The 52-year-old mother-of-four, who lives in Radford Road, Leamington, was walking to work at Wolseley when she was knocked down by a car which was turning out of a junction as she crossed Tachbrook Road at about 8.45am last Thursday.
She was carried a short distance on the bonnet of the car - frantically grabbing onto a windscreen wiper which snapped - and slid off onto the road as the vehicle came to a halt.
Mrs Rai said: “My right leg was hurting and my elbow and I had cut my upper lip. Luckily my head did not hit the ground and no cars were coming the other way.
“I was just lying there and couldn’t move.
“One of the people who came to help me said ‘you are in good hands I’m a nurse’ and they told me their name was Rav.
“I know a paramedic and the police also came to help as well.
Mrs Rai sustained only minor injuries in the accident.
She was discharged from Warwick Hospital on the same day after she received treatment and had X-Rays taken.
She spent a few days of this week recovering at home and is looking forward to being able to exercise again.
But she has only vague memories of what happened immediately after she was knocked down and is keen to express her gratitude to anyone who helped her.
She said: “I’m ever so thankful to them they were there at the right time to help me.
“You normally think people will just ignore you if you need help but there are some very kind people in this world.
“I was shivering and somebody gave me a blanket - I want to thank that person and tell them they can have it back.”
This was not the first time Mrs Rai was the victim in a serious accident.
In 2008 she suffered a broken leg when a young cyclist crashed into her on the pavement outside her house.
She later launched a safety campaign to encourage cyclists to use the road.
Mrs Rai said: “When I told my family this time they were worried and wondered how it happened. They said ‘Mum, not again’.”
