Teenagers jailed after vicious attack leaves victim needing 24-hour care

TWO teenagers have been sentenced to a total of 18 years behind bars for a vicious attack which left their victim with a ‘catastrophic brain injury’.

At Warwick Crown Court today (Monday) Jack Bryant, 19, of St Nicholas Road, Radford Semele and David Van Kesteren, also 19, of St Michael’s Close, Ufton, received ten and eight-year sentences respectively after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A third 19-year-old, Jake Hall, of Burnthurst Lane, Princethorpe, was given two years detention after admitting maliciously causing grievous bodily harm, on the basis he had driven the other two to the home of their victim, and for common assault.

The victim, Frederico ‘Rico’ Rosso, has been left unable to speak or use a machine to communicate and his mother says he appears blank and does not acknowledge his family, a judge has heard.

It is unlikely the 42-year-old will ever be able to stand and is expected he will need 24-hour care for the rest of his life.

The attack happened at Mr Rosso’s home in Ascote Way, Southam, just after midnight on August 19 last year.

Bryant had also admitted to being concerned in the supply of cannabis and common assault on another victim, Nathan Hirons, that night while Van Kesteren had admitted a further charge of arson.
