THREE teenagers are getting ready to Race the Sun by cycling, canoeing and climbing a mountain next month - and all in the name of charity.

Archie Dent, aged 16, Will Twigger, aged 16, and Tom Pigott, aged 17, who all attend Warwick School, and are in training for the Race the Sun event in the Lake District next month.

The trio will have to cycle 50 miles, canoe for three miles and climb up and down England’s third highest mountain Helvellyn to raise £2,000 for Action Medical Research.

Archie said: “We know some people who did the event last year and really enjoyed the challenge so thought we would have a go as soon as we were old enough.

“We have been training for a few months now getting in some good miles in readiness for what will be a big day.

“Around 100 teams take part and you have to complete the course between sunrise and sunset.”

The boys are also being supported by Mike Vaughan Cycles in Kenilworth and have been given Trek Marlin bikes which can handle the road and rocky off-road sections of the ten-year-old event.

Mr Vaughan said: “We had seen the lads out training across the summer and seen how much work they had been putting in.

“We are a Trek dealer and this year Trek is a partner of Action Medical Research and were kind enough to let the lads use Marlins in the final weeks of training for the event.

“They should be fine with the amount of work they have put in, and the bikes will cope comfortably with all the conditions the Lakes can throw at them.”

Action Medical Research is the UK’s leading medical research charity dedicated to helping babies and children.

For 60 years it has contributed to some of the most significant medical breakthroughs in recent history.
