Spectacular show for 25th fireworks

Waiting for Video...

By hannah smith

The Round Table spectacular saw crowds of 13,000 from all over the Midlands pouring into the castle fields to enjoy the impressive 25 minute display on Saturday night.

Tom Shearer, chair of the charity group, said they broke even on costs on the morning of the show and were now hoping to collect anywhere up to £40,000 to help the community.

A sum of £20,000 has already been pledged to support the renovation of the Abbey Fields play area and the rest of the money will be divided between local causes and charities over the next few months.

Speaking about the success, Mr Shearer said: “We are delighted that it has been another amazing year and cannot thank everyone enough for their support as without that it would not be possible.

“The show was just brilliant, we had more money to spend on the fireworks and it was really worth it.

“It is incredible that after 25 years it just continues to get bigger and better and raise more and more for worthy causes, all thanks to town support.”

The Ladies Circle were also out selling glow sticks to help boost the kitty in their biggest fund-raiser of the year.

Exact funds will be known over the next week and anyone who feels their group or organisation could benefit can get in touch and make their case.
