Sandstone columns to define the town
Kenilworth’s five entrances and exits could be marked with stone columns to help define and show off the town.
The Town Centre Partnership has been working with architects on designs for monuments to be placed at each of the major access roads to mark the town’s borders.
And they now have the support of the town council after presenting the ideas to members at their last meeting.
Charles Smith from the TCP said the markers could be made of sandstone to link to the castle but that there was still a long way to go in terms of final design, location and the cash to make it all happen.
Councillors agreed to support the move as a “legacy project” but that they would need to “look carefully” at deign and location to make sure they got the right balance.
Cllr Felicity Bunker, said they needed to be careful the designs would not distract drivers but that to mark out the town was a fantastic idea.
The TCP will continue talks with council highways officers and town architects to progress with the plans.
