Precept to go up 35p a year
TOWN councillors have increased their council tax collections by just 35 pence per household for the next financial year.
The town council will collect £199,745 from April, putting annual payments for an average Band D household £18.50 per year.
During a special meeting to approve the sum, councillors were told that to go over £200,000 would put the council in a higher audit band and “substantially increase costs” for accounts.
They agreed that fees had to be increased but that the increase was to be kept as low as possible. The extra funds will cover staff costs, running of Jubilee House and election preparations.
Members unanimously supported the sum and praised the very low increase and “well balanced” budget.
