Police investigated over Lillington death

THE contact between the police and a Lillington woman who was later found dead at her home is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The 44-year-old was discovered by paramedics who were called to her house in Briar Close at around 11am on October 25.

Investigators say that Warwickshire Police had received an emergency call at around 8.15pm on the previous day, but the call was terminated before the caller provided any details.

A police operator then returned the call and spoke to two men and a woman, who told the operator where they were.

After finding the woman’s body the next day, the ambulance service called police officers to the same address. Two men, aged 62 and 49, were arrested in connection with the woman’s death, but later released on bail.

A postmortem examination had revealed that she died of a pre-existing condition.

IPCC commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne said: “The investigation is examining the actions and decisions of control room staff, supervisors and police officers and whether force procedures and policies were followed in relation to contact with the occupants of Briar Close on the evening of October 24, 2012.

“An investigator has made contact with the woman’s family to explain our role. My thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
