Play area is set to be fixed within three weeks
A PETITION with more than 950 signatures was presented to Full Council on Wednesday night to get new play equipment in Abbey Fields, following the Weekly News’s front page story two weeks ago.
Mark Davison, a concerned parent, spoke at the meeting and said: “The Abbey Fields play area has been deteriorating and the opportunity to repair it has been limited.
“We are asking the council to improve it immediately.”
Cllr Ann Blacklock added: “I am fed up of telling residents, ‘yes, I am sure they will do something next year’.”
However Cllr Michael Coker (Con, Abbey) said he was “dismayed and surprised” to see the petition. He added: “When I contacted the officers, I was immediately told the items had had to be removed from the play area because they were dangerous and broken and that they would be repaired in three weeks - certainly before the school holidays begin.
“I would propose to this council that it agree to this petition and commit to the items being replaced within three weeks.”
Cllr Coker’s proposal was passed.
