BOCCIA star Nigel Murray’s hopes of individual glory at the Paralympics have been dashed.

The 48-year-old from Whitnash lost 3-1 at the quarter final stage of the individual BC2 competition in a close contest against surprise package Kai Zhong yesterday.

It was Murray’s final chance to add to a Paralympic medal haul which includes two golds, one silver and the bronze won in the team event this week.

“It would’ve been nice to finish on a high rather than going out on what feels like a low but there’s not a lot I can do about it now,” said Murray.

“I felt a bit flat yesterday but I now have 17 medals across the major competitions and I’ve come away with a medal from these games which is more than many can say.”

“But these Games have been fantastic in terms of all the people, including my friends and family, coming out and showing support and the atmosphere in the arena has been absolutely brilliant.”

Murray will take part in the closing ceremony for the Games on Sunday and then a victory parade on Monday before taking some time to decide whether he will represent Great Britain at another major championship.

“I’ve not made my mind up on that one yet, I’m going to take few months before I make a decision,” said Murray.

“I’ll just enjoy watching Brakes play and carry on working with the charities I’m involved with before taking a holiday.”

Murray’s Paralympic medals are on display as part of Leamington Art Gallery and Museum’s Going for Gold exhibition, which runs until Sunday October 7.
