Man injured in waste compactor incident at Warwick University

A MAN was seriously injured when he was pinned between a piece of waste machinery and a wall on the Warwick University campus.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to outside Warwick Arts Centre on Gibbet Hill Road, Canley, shortly after 10.30am on Sunday.

An ambulance, a doctor and a paramedic area support officer attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When crews arrived they found a man, believed to be in his 30s, who had become pinned against a wall by the door of a waste compactor.

“The man sustained serious leg and ankle injuries. Crews and the medic administered pain relief and stabilised his condition whilst working closely with the fire service to carefully extricate him.

“After around 45 minutes of being trapped the man was released and his injuries immobilised with a vacuum splint.

“Crews transported the man by land ambulance on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”
