‘Incredible’ response to future plans for town

MORE than 200 people have already filled in a questionnaire to find out what residents want to see in their town over the next 18 years.
Kenilworth Town Council has launched the Town Plan consultation to give everyone an input in how the town is shaped in terms of development and major investment as part of the District Council’s wider Local Plan.
Town councillor Michael Coker said it was all about listening to the voices of residents to find out what people of all ages want to see.
He said the castle mere, a one way system for Warwick Road and Castle Farm developments were all coming up as popular talking points and that all suggestions would be given real consideration in future plans.
“This is a chance for everyone to get involved and we will listen to all views,” he said.
“We have had 200 responses in just two days which is incredible, we just hope people keep going and more come forward
“This is not exclusive, we want to hear all views on anything to do with Kenilworth.”
And speaking about the long running proposal to reflood the castle mere which has received a lot of interest in the survey, to date, he said:
“At this stage it is a question of do we investigate it further and do we put money into doing that.
“It would be a phenomenal thing if we went ahead but would require significant financial investment so we would not want to do anything of it is not what people want.”
Town mayor, George Illingworth said it was vital that people get involved and that to even have ten per cent of the town submit their views would be “fantastic”.
Saturday morning public sessions will be held from 10am to midday in Jubilee House on January 19 and 26, as well as February 2, 9 and 16 where all are welcome to chat to councillors about their ideas and fill in a paper questionnaire to add to responses.
The public consultation will help shape Warwick District Council’s Local Plan which sets out development for the entire district.
The 40 question survey is open until mid February and can be accessed via www.kenilworthtowncouncil.co.uk
Paper copies are also available from the library, Jubilee House and various shops and restaurants across the town.
