How much is that in old money?
Town Mayor Cllr George Illingworth congratulates Andy Jones and Liz Horner of Town and Country Furniture on their winning display.
A PROFILE picture of the Queen made from pre-decimalisation coins was just part of the winning entry in a competition for Kenilworth’s best Jubilee shop window display.
The window of Town and Country Furniture in Abbey End included a display of mementoes from across the 60 years of her reign, as well as Liz Horner’s rendering of the Queen made up of 1,196 pennies, shillings and crowns adding up to £19 13s 8d.
The town’s streets and shops were a mass of red, white and blue for the Jubilee, with the competition, organised by Kenilworth Town Council, the most popular ever.
Kenilworth mayor Cllr George Illingworth, who presented the trophy to proprietor Andy Jones, thanked all who had taken part, adding that Town and Country Furniture’s entry stood out because of the thought and effort that had gone into it.
Cllr Shirley Shilton, chairman of the judging panel, said: “There were so many attractive shops all over the town and the standard was very high. People had put in a lot of effort and it was wonderful to see the town so well decorated.”
Kenilworth’s Age UK charity shop was the runner-up.
