Harrowing talk gives glimpse into past
Holocaust survivor Martin Stern chats to pupils at Kenilworth school. Also pictured are teachers Cathy Eades and Mohammad Nahar.
A HOLOCAUST survivor told Kenilworth School pupils stories about his terrifying experiences as a child during World War II.
Last Thursday Martin Stern told the year nine group about the loss of his family, his journey to the concentration camp and eventual survival against the odds.
Pupils listened to the story of the Christian family who harboured hundreds of Jews including Mr Stern’s father, who were eventually imprisoned and killed for their kindness.
Pupils said the visit allowed them to question their own views and conceptions not only on war, but also on morality in general, as Mr Stern asked them to consider why seemingly ordinary people behaved in such appalling ways.
