A KENILWORTH adventurer touched the heights after successfully reaching one of the highest points on Mount Kilimanjaro and raising over £500 for African farmers.

Martin Haworth, who works at the National Farmers Union’s (NFU) undertook the punishing ‘Kilimanjaro Challenge’ to raise funds for Farm Africa - a charity which provides food aid and skill knowledge to farmers.

And the 61-year-old reached Gilman’s Point, one of the highest on Africa’s tallest mountain at a dizzying 5685 metres above sea level at 8am after a six-day trek and climbing through the night.

He made the trek along with other NFU workers in the Africa 100 Appeal Team.

To end the climb, they made their final push to the summit with a 1,200 metre climb in dark, freezing conditions and oxygen-thin air with no water. So far over £24,377 has been raised by the team. To donate visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MartinHaworth
