Elderly man dies after being hit by truck

AN ELDERLY man has died after being hit by a pick-up truck at a petrol station in Warwick Road, Wellesbourne, on Wednesday.

The-88-year-old was on foot and is believed to have had taken shelter under the garage canopy from a sudden downpour of rain at around 6.20pm when he was hit by a green Mitsubishi pick-up.

He was taken to Warwick Hospital, where he died on Thursday.

The driver of the pick-up was not injured.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and ask that anyone who was also on the petrol forecourt at the time, or who was in the area and saw the Mitsubishi pick-up, or the pedestrian prior to the collision, should contact Pc Sharon Coldrick at the Major Investigation Unit, Roads, on 415415.

The man’s name will not be released until formal identification processes have taken place and his relatives have been informed.
