Dog-warning sticker rumour is not true, say Warwickshire Police
RUMOURS that thieves are placing stickers on houses in Warwickshire to warn other criminals where there are big dogs inside are not true, say police.
Officers say there is no current evidence to indicate that this has occurred in Warwickshire or surrounding counties, as has been suggested on social media and by email.
But the force want to remind dog owners of how best to protect their pets. Officers say that all dogs should be microchipped and should not be left unattended either in the street or in a car.
Those who keep their dogs outside should make sure that their property and kennels are secure. While walking, they should always be kept on a lead while near roads and dogs should be trained to came back to their owners before they are let off the lead.
Dogs should not be allowed to run free near farm animals or cause a nuisance to others.
Dogs are sometimes stolen, so owners should be vigilant. Anyone who sees suspicious activity, cars or people - but not postings on social media - should call police on 101, while anyone who sees a crime as it happens should always dial 999.
