Desperate plea for lollipop ladies in Kenilworth school chaos

Lollipop ladies are desperately needed to help hundreds of school children tackle a ‘nightmare junction’ each day.
Pupils from St Nicholas School and Castle Nursery have for years been helped to safely cross Albion Street for years.
But after both lollipop ladies retired last year, no-one has come forward to help man the Spring Lane junction leaving access to The Blundells chaotic and dangerous.
Children must cross on a blind bend on Albion Street where traffic flows in both directions and the road is narrowed by cars parked along both sides. Traffic also comes on and off the road in both directions from Spring Lane.
And Bonny Landsborough, crossing patrol supervisor at Warwick District Council, said without help the children are being left in real danger each morning and afternoon.
“We have gone the whole winter with nobody but it cannot go on, it is absolutely chaotic here,” she said.
“It is much worse in the mornings, there are cars coming from every direction. We are on a bus route and there are lorries passing every day. It is just not safe.”
Parents and children have joined the call for crossing officers to help keep them safe and posters have gone up over town advertising the vacancies. To apply for the paid role contact Bonny on 412661 or scp@warwickshire.go.uk
