Crack down on underage drink sales
A KENILWORTH business is being investigated after selling alcohol to a 15-year-old in a police crack down on sales of alcohol to children.
Underage test purchasers were sent to 15 premises in Kenilworth and Warwick by officers from police and trading standards to test the age checks in place.
Owners of the Kenilworth business where the child was sold alcohol were issued with an £80 penalty notice contrary to the Licensing Act 1964.
Trading standards are investigating and the business may face prosecution.
Kenilworth’s PC Pete King said: “We are aware of the amount of disruption that the misuse of alcohol causes in communities and we will make retailers negligent in supplying drinks to minors responsible for their actions.
“It was encouraging that most did not sell alcohol to young people and I would like to emphasise the importance of always checking ID.”
