AN elated congregation has returned to St Peter’s along with villagers in their droves after a £76,000 revamp to bring the church up to standard.
The grand reopening Sunday service saw over 140 people from Balsall Common enjoying the newly refurbished building after years of fund-raising and six months of hard work to make it all happen,
New facilities including a level floor, comfortable seats, improved lighting and audio-visual equipment and heating and damp proofing.
And it has all been described as fantastic, by the vicar, Reverend Peter Thomas who said there has been nothing but positive feedback from the community.
“We have had an excellent response and people seem very happy with the new features, even those who were sceptical about the closure” he said.
“We had a special reopening service and the church was packed as nearly the whole village came to have a look and get involved.”
The money was brought in through fund-raising, existing church funds and loans from the diocese.
Revd Thomas said phase two of the extensive repair works will be completed once funds are available to complete the refit.
