NATIVITY sets from far and wide will be on display at a Leamington church next week.

Radford Road church will be putting on the display of more than 150 exhibits from Tuesday and on every afternoon from 2pm to 4pm until next Saturday.

The sets come from many different countries and include scenes of the traditional Nativity showing the Holy family in the stable, miniature ones that fit into dolls’ houses, silver teaspoons with nativity figures at the end of the handle and sets made from olive wood carved in Bethlehem.

Exhibits come from South America, which feature llamas in the stable, Zambia, where traditional sheep have been replaced by hippopotami, North America, where Native American Indians have a tepee instead of a stable and Mexico, which is made from tin plate.

The sets have been loaned to the church by members of its congregation and their friends.

The Reverend John Carrier, a retired minister who has helped to organise the event, said: “As far as we are aware there has not been an exhibition of this kind in this area before.

“We are delighted with the many wonderful nativity sets which have been loaned to us and we hope that as many people as possible will visit us to see the truly amazing array of artefacts which focus on the birth of Jesus.”

Most of the exhibits are ‘view only’ but there will be a children’s table where youngsters can handle nativities and colour pictures and play with nativity fuzzy felts.

There is also an activity sheet which they can complete as they tour the exhibition.

Paintings by pupils at nearby schools will also be on display at the exhibition, with youngsters from Clapham Terrace Primary School visiting the exhibition and singing songs on Wednesday at 1.30pm.

Nativity biscuits, tea and coffee will be on sale.

Admission is free but those attending are asked to make a voluntary donation to the work of the church.
