Christmas lights switch on

KENILWORTH will be sparkling with Christmas lights when the festive activities begin next month.

Warwick Road lights will be switched on by the town mayor Cllr Susan Howell on Friday November 26 at 7pm.

The road will close for part of the day to allow for the erection of stalls and fun fair attractions.

David Butler, Kenilworth town centre manager, said: “I’m looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors to the switch on with its mix of stalls, attractions, and a Mercia FM stage with a host of performances to keep everyone entertained.”

David Hemming, the owner of Kenilworth Gifts has also organised a number of attractions for younger children this year.

He said: “We are really looking forward to helping provide a fun-packed evening for all the family.”

Cllr Howell and Father Christmas will then turn on the High Street lights on Friday December 3 at 6pm.

Cllr Richard Davies, chairman of the illuminations committee, said: “The High Street switch on is always a special event for families with young children and this year will be even more magical than usual.

“There is going to be a wonderful display of Christmas trees at St Nicholas’ church and we are having a Nutcracker story theme for the evening with talented support from Priory Theatre members.

“If any school children or toddlers would like to join in with the festivities, by dressing up as mice or toy soldiers, then I’m sure Father Christmas will be very glad to see them.”
