Charity Cowfest in Leamington for cancer cause
It may not feature cattle, but a cancer charity-supporting Cowfest coming to Leamington will feature six hours of live music, food and family entertainment.
Claire Catterall and four friends recently came across the movement, which is being run nationwide by Good Intervention, a charity that exists to help other charitable organisations raise their profile, and decided to organise their own to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Their Cowfest is taking place at the Dell on Saturday March 23 from noon to 6pm, with music by nine bands from around the Midlands, food by Pancho’s tapas restaurant and drinks provided by Oscar’s Caravan Bar.
Claire, who along with Matthew Hyde, Matt Farrell, Benjamin Lane and Ben Taylor has been organising the event in her spare time. She said: “I came across Cowfest on Twitter so a group of us wanted to get involved and make a community event out of it.
“Cancer Research was an obvious choice for us to support because everyone is at some point affected by cancer, but we also know someone who has recently been diagnosed.
“It should be a good event. We are trying to organise some face-painting and other activities for children as well.
“We have got a lot of our friends supporting us. If it goes well this year, next year it might be something bigger.”
There will be no entry charge but those who attend will be asked to make a donation to the charity, while all vendors will also be making a donation.
Those who cannot make it or who want to carry on with festivities can attend an ‘after-party’ at the Coventry Arms in Guy’s Cliffe Road from 7pm, with a DJ and charity raffle.
Good Innovation is encouraging people to organise their own Cowfest - a small or large-scale gathering with music - across the country over the same weekend to raise funds for a charity of their choice.
